Add on to Fiji trip?

We would like to go to Fiji in september for our honeymoon and would like to tack on one other place while we are in that part of the world (we are originating from New York). Does anyone have any suggestions on somewhere that would be fairly easy to get to en route to Fiji? We would be spending about 5 days there and apx 10 (give or take) in Fiji.

You should go to Sydney. I went to Fiji and Oz in 2001 so I don't remember very well how long the flight was but it was only about 4-5 hours from Nadi to Sydney. 5 days in Sydney is not enough (in my opinion) but a great start and a change from lying around the beach in Fiji. Also, both are big hubs for the South Pacific so there are a few flights. Look at Air Pacific or Qantas.

Thanks for the suggestion-I'll look into that. Ideally though, I'd rather not go to a big city, since I live in one and am looking to "get away".

Hi there

If uyou are keen on another South Pacific destination that is easy to travel to and from and is a great place to relax you may consider the Cook Islands.

Only a couple of hours by plane from Fiji.

Even though it is so close it is a different experience, with the Cooks being a Polynesian country and Fiji a Melanesian country. Different cultures for you to experience.

The Cooks like Fiji have fantasic beaches both on the main Island Rarotonga and on the outer islands. Aitutaki (one of the Cook Islands) is definately worth a visit with a brilliant blue lagoon and sandy motu (islands) to while away the day on.

Cheers

Cook islands sound great, i had looked into them but was under the impression the weather there was not so great in September. I will check them out!
After looking at some airfares, we are also considering maybe trying two islands in fiji and splitting up the trip that way. Any suggestions on which islands to choose, that are fairly different from each other? we are thinking about vatuele and another one, maybe 5 days each. we both like activities, and dont want to get bored on one island for 10 days. We have decided to cut this trip to 10 days and plan a separate trip to NZ next year, as its not really a good season on the south island there in Sept.
