accommodation in Adelaide and environs
 

We are going to Adelaide in June-want to stay in interesting , boutique hotels,
bed and breakfast etc, about $150-$200aus per night. -preferably near good restaurants!

I have not stayed at small hotels or b & b in Adelaide but I do recommend anyone stay at Glenelg instead of downtown Adelaide.

It is not far from the city but is on the waterfront with plenty of places to eat. Don't know if rate as great places to eat but still plenty to choose from.

If you are from Aucland it is like staying at Ponsoby rather than Auckland city. Though maybe not quite the same along similiar lines.

Has anyone else noticed the similarity between Adelaide and Christchurch?

Just returned (to Sydney) from ADL today. Have to say I stayed at the YHA and at the Ambassador Hotel (ie a pub) - neither of which fit yr criteria. But you might like to get hold of a publication called "Secrets" available free from the SA Visitors' Information Office (it's half an inch thick and lists all sorts of lovely looking accomm). Of course you may not be able to do this, and they may not mail it out - but check out the website instead www.southaustralia.com.

Sorry to disagree with DropBear but Glenelg is good for the beach and the trip on the antique tram but eating options looked lacking compared to the CBD - granted most of those are not what you'd call 'gourmet'.
Last night I walked up to North Adelaide and had a great Indian meal at a small place on Melbourne St. Plenty of other options there - Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, Tibetan/Nepalese, Italian, etc. etc. I'd be surprised if there weren't some boutique B&Bs in N Adelaide. May I also recommend a visit to the SA Museum (wonderful) and the Art Gallery.

And yes, Neil - sort of, in that both are a little out of the mainstream, and have areas of great beauty nearby. And both have plenty of green spaces, though think Adelaide wins here and shd be called the city of parks instead of the city of churches. But don't recollect Christchurch having a grid street pattern which, instinctively, I dislike.

I suspect Adelaide when the festival is on is a quite different city from when it's not.

We live in Christchurch and love it.
Both cities were designed by the same person and many people have remarked on the similarity.
I would love to know of places in N. Adelaide -yes, have read about the restaurants there-won't try Indian, as have just returned from Rajasthan and though we thought it magical, my stomach didn't agree!

me again - talking about my hols in ADL with a work colleague this am - she loves Adelaide and recommends Miriam's Cottage in Tanunda. It has 2 double bedrooms so may be bigger than you need.
