7days in syd...what don't I want to miss
 

Hey I will be in SYD for 7 days and will be with two other guys looking to party. We are all 24 and just want to have a good time at night and do some relaxing sight seeing during the day...Any info would be greatly appreciated thanks again...see ya soon

I was just in Sydney for 7 days with a friend (we're your age)at the end of February. I wanted to do some partying too, but we just so happened to be there during the Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras (we are not lesbians!), and there were close to a million people in town for this event. So all the clubs were overly crowded and we didn't get to go out much. But as far as sightseeing, I would definitely recommend going on a tour of the Olympic site. This 1/2 day tour was the most impressive thing we did. We had a guide who drove about 6 or 7 of us around in a minivan and we got to learn a lot about Aussie culture from him. There are also bus tours (red and blue--red is for the city attractions and blue is for the bay area), which give you a great overview of attractions, and you can get off at each of the 24 or so stops. If you do this, don't make the mistake we did and begin a bus tour in the afternoon--the bus pass is good all day and we missed out. If you are going soon, while it's still warm, Bondi Beach is a fun place to go to. Our hotel was in Bondi and a lot of young people hung out there (WARNING: Do NOT stay at the Bondi Beachside Inn--we were booked there but got out ASAP--it was terrible). Plus, if you want to get in some physical activity there is a trail at Bondi Beach that runs up along the cliffs by the water--it was beautiful with awesome views, although hilly for us runners. But as for night life, the center city area is the best, I'd say. Kings Cross area has a lot of bars and clubs, but looked pretty scary based on some of the strange characters lingering around. Sorry I can't help you out much on nightlife, but definitely go on the Olympic tour. Also, take a tour of the Opera House--it is the most famous building in Sydney (probably in all of Australia) and you don't have to like opera to be impressed with the tour. We did a lot of shopping (the Queen Victoria Building, Darling Harbor, Circular Quay, City Centre) because prices are really good there. But I doubt 3 guys would be too keen on that. Spent 6 weeks in Sydney - really nice, friendly and fun place to stay is a hostel called the Funk House in Kings Cross. It's in the centre of party town (just leave your prude heads at home, lads!) Good pubs include O'Malleys in Kings X and the Pavillion in the City. <BR> <BR>If you can get up early enough, take a trip to the Blue Mountains while you're there, for some not to be missed scenery, and some Kangaroos! <BR>Enjoy!

Hey, I live in Sydney, but am quite young so I don't know much aboutt he party scene, I'm sorry!!!! But I do know a lot about sight seeing and stuff that you can do around Sydney. If you can spare about $100 each, the Harbour Bridge Climb is definitely something you must do. I climbed the Bridge in February and it was the greatest thing I have ever done!!!! It takes three hours and two of those you are on the Bridge itself. <BR>There's heaps of places to shop. The QVB (Queen Victoria Building) is great and so is Darling Harbour. <BR>As for the party scene, well, Kings Cross is a very seedy area, not the sort of place you want to hang around in at night. People will disagree with me, but I still wouldn't got there. <BR>Any other questions, feel free to email me.

Well, I also stayed in the Funkhouse, Kings X like Joanne above, and I have to admit that for a great time, friendly people and safe environment it can't be beaten. Kings X is a dodgy area, but its safe because of the huge police presence on the main streets (just don't go off them). O'Malleys is a great place, and also some of the clubs in the vicinity. For something a bit more upmarket just take a stroll into town (its only 20 mins from the X). Theres some great pubs there - you'll see them. Theres also some good clubs down Oxford Street, but warnings - do not pick up any of the Ladies Of The Night on the streets - they're not ladies... You'll have a great time, and if you stay at a groovy hostel you'll meet people to go out with, and they'll recommend the current places to go. Sightseeing wise, there's loads to see - catching the ferry over to Manly is a must - awesome views. The tourist centres there are very helpful. Coogee beach is a wonderful place to chill out for a day. <BR>Have fun <BR>Jo <BR>

Thanks for the information. A girlfriend and I are heading to Australia from June 10th - 20th. We're planning to divide our time between Cairns, Brisbane and Sydney. Did you go to Cairns or Brisbane on your trip? Any "must see" suggestions? <BR>I appreciate any information you can provide would be much appreciated. Katie
