7 hours in brisbane

Hi, due to sudden change in Jetstar schedule I will have about 7 hours in Brisbane. I would appreciate suggestions on how to spend them there.

Get the train that is outside the terminal and go into the city for a bit of a walk around. It takes about 20 minutes into the city and you can get it back to the airport - no dramas etc. Take the train to Roma Street and you can either go shopping or go over to Southbank which is always a pleasant area to be in. You have also the art gallery there as well if that is to your liking.

We had about the same amount of time (maybe less) in Brisbane in April. We had taken the bus from Noosa, so were already in the city. We had lunch, then wandered for quite a while along the river and checked out the City Gardens. Then we had coffee and a dessert somewhere and took the train out to the airport. Overall, we had a very pleasant low key day of sightseeing.

If you take Liz's advice and head for Southbank it may be worth researching www.south-bank.net.au and check the Attractions drop down menu. As well as the Art Gallery mentioned by Liz there's the Qld Museum which you may consider to be worth a look. i'd be inclined to get off the train at Central, one stop before Roma Street, and walk through the City proper before crossing the Victoria bridge to Southbank. There are also riverside restaurants in the city worthy of your consideration. Just ask a local for directions.

Alternatively, and depending on the timing of your arrival, you may prefer an outing to Lone Pine Sanctuary to see the koalas (and others). You can do this by taking a cruise that leaves North Quay in the city at 10 am and departs Lone Pine at 1.30 pm (1.5 hours each way) Website is www.koala.net Train details on www.airtrain.com.au
