5 days on Dunk Island?

Hello~
Would 5 days be a good amount of time to spend on Dunk Island in August? We are interested in relaxing (will have been traveling around NZ and OZ for 4.5 weeks prior), snorkeling, intro dive, water sports, laying on the beach, hiking, etc. They have a special package price for 5 or more days.

We are also considering Hinchinbrook, Heron, or Whitsunday Wilderness...but they seem like they would be harder to get to (from Darwin). We were thinking of flying to Cairns and taking a bus to Mission Beach then boat to Dunk.

Any other suggestions would be helpful.

We have a total of 12 nights to spend in QLD/Cairns area before flying home.

Thanks!
Keri

5 days would be just fine, some ppl say that it is too long and you will get bored but I seem to think they dont know how to relax or something!!!
I have not been to dunk but have been to Brampton Island which is slightly smaller for 6 nights, it is owned by P&O resorts also, 6 nights was just fine.
With the diving and snorkelling I think for both you have to take a boat from Dunk Island, I dont think there is much coral straight off the beach there.
Any more opinions?

I think it takes about 1/2 hour to hike around Dunk. Forget Heron as the reef there is not all that good - being at the very bottom edge of the 2,000klm reef. The Whitsunday Islands would be great too. There is so much to see up there that you time will fly. See my suggestions about other ideas on you other post.

The only problem with the Whitsunday Islands is the travel time to get there. You generally have to fly in and out of some very small airports. We did this back in 1999, the area and islands are great but we lost the better part of two days (one each way).
