2 extra Days ---Brisbane or Sydney - quick help needed!

I have a short notice business trip to Brisbane on Sunday.....I plan to stay 2 extra days. Question, is it better to fly to Sydney for 2 days or is Brisbane a fun place to hang out?

I should add that I favor wanting to explore the hikes, the coast, and natural areas. Just a little quick searching here, it sounds like enjoying the greater Brisbane area will be very nice.

I could use help on lodging though. My colleagues for work and I will be staying downtown Brisbane and the Oaks Charlotte Apartments. However, should I consider heading out of town for my last two days or use this location as my base?

Clearly, I'll need to rent a car.

Go explore the hinterland of the Gold Coast, Mt. Tamborine and thereabouts. Nice hilly landscapes, nice views, great walks.

You would waste the best part of a morning traveling to Sydney (when you factor in getting to and from the airport, getting to the airport an hour in advance etc.). I don't think it's worth it for two days.

There's a train to the coast from Brisbane (it's the same one that goes from the airport to the city centre. In addition, there are nice walks along the river boardwalks in Brisbane itself. Taking the rivercat is a really pleasant way to see the city. Along Southbank there are a cluster of cultural institutions, like Gallery of Modern Art and Queensland Art Gallery, that are well worth visiting.

And you can explore the Sunshine Coast / hinterland and/ or the islands just off Brisbane. Heaps to do up there.
