Please suggest some meaningful itineraries for a 30 day long stay in Australia.

Lucky you getting to go to Oz for 30 days! However, before anyone can suggest itineraries, you have to give us more information--like what you like to do, who is going (adults, family, college roommates??) camping or luxury, fly or drive, things like that. It's a huge country with an abundance of things to see and do. You can't do it all even in 30 days. In 2004 we had 24 days and went to Sydney (with 2 days at Jenolan Caves), Uluru (3 nights), Kakadu, Cairns and Port Douglas, and back to Sydney. We were busy, but had a lot of fun. Happy planning!

I would suggest 9 days Tasmania, 2 Melbourne, 6 Sydney, 3 Sunshine Coast and 10 nights FNQ.

Tasmania do a loop tour. Sydney take a fews days outside of Sydney either way. Sunshine Coast, stay Noosa, see small towns Gympie and Cooroy and see the Glasshouse Mountains and Hinterland areas.

FNQ. Do a big tour of the area... Barrier Reef, Rainforest, Outback, Tableland.

Melbourne to Brisbane is a good drive.


Because of distances in Australia, people will often fly, and it is Zone 1 & 2, with passes being cheaper bought outside the country. A Zone 2 pass will take you to New Zealand.

I like tassietwister's ideas but you do not say what you are interested in. The Tasmanian and North Queensland experiences will show you a great deal of the variety that Australia has to offer. I suggest you search this list for suggestions and comments. Australian wildlife is mostly crepuscular or nocturnal if talking about mammals. The Atherton Tablelands goes from rainforest and lakes to semi arid lands in a short distance and because of this diversity of landscape and habvitat has a huge range of birds, mammals etc.
