Yuan vs. US $$

How will the current economic crisis in the US affect the Yuan? Or is it anybody's guess? China is stll pretty cheap by most US standards.

The Chinese currency is pretty much pegged to the US Dollar so I would not expect to see much fluctuation. That's how the Chinese remain the US no 1 importer.

The CNY was pegged to the dollar at around 1USD = 8.28CNY until mid-2005. It has gone up gradually till 1USD = 6.812CNY on 7/16 this year. That is a 21% rise in 3 years.

Since July, the rate has been stable around 6.82 and 6.87.
