Your Favorite Hong Kong Must do's
My husband booked hotel yesterday for Hong Kong in June.
I am curious what some of your favorite local must do's are. And - any noteworthy side trips you enjoyed - done in one day. Thanks!! |
I enjoyed the Nong Ping skyride up to the Big Buddha. It's touristy but the ride was quiet and peaceful! You take the subway to the last stop (past the airport and Disney) and get off at an outlet mall. The skyrail is right there. The ride is nearly 30 minutes in each direction. You can get glass carriages that allow you to look down as well as outward. We opted for the ordinary carriage.
Of course the ferry back and forth is nice, as is the bus ride to Stanley Market ("other side" sort of, of HK Island). |
We also took the bus ride out to Stanley, and really enjoyed it. The views are great, and we enjoyed the Stanley area. It was warm when we were there, so we ate lunch outside, poked around the market, took a long walk, etc. We also enjoyed the tram up to the peak, although it was quite cold up there, so we didn't spend much time there. Mostly we just wandered, it seems from market to market to market! We loved Hong Kong! Oh, Man Mo Temple is quite lovely.

rhmmk, Lamma ? Cheung Chau?
|
Thanks everyone. I am very excited for this adventure.
I have been looking into day trips into China - I found a few that look really interesting. |
Ferry out to Cheung Chau island, wander around and have lunch on the "corniche". About 5-6 hours and quite a pleasant interlude.
|
We went for a duk ling boat ride which was cruise on HK harbour. The duk ling is the iconic red sail junk boat you see on tourism ads for HK. It was quite fun. It used to be free for non residents, all we had to do was show our passport but now you have to pay about HKD100. It's still relatively cheap.
|
I cant wait - thanks all
Tickets booked today!! |
Day trips to China are not worth the visa fee if you are an American needing a visa. To to Macau instead.
|
A ride on the Star Ferry is fun and cheap as well.
|
A drink at dusk in the lounge at the (Kowloon) Intercontinental, watching the neon and lights come up on HKI.

Took my first trip to HK last year...there for 3 weeks. One of my best trips!! Lot's to do! Highly recommend bigbustours.com
http://www.bigbustours.com/eng/hongk...px?id=day_tour We signed up for the 2 day tour which I think included a night time tour. It's a hop on/off tour of all the major areas (the peak tram ride, starr ferry, kwoolon, stanley beach, etc.) It was great because we can hop off and hang out then continue on when ready. You really need 2 full days to see everything they offer! Take it early in your trip, you'll learn the layout making it easier to find things later. The HK museum was great. Have a great time!! Can't wait to go back. |
Yes Lamma Island. The ferry ride out before sunset, a great fish dinner and then the ferry ride back when all the lights are on, is magical.
|
Bringing back up... just in case more ideas pop up!!
Thanks again. |
