Does China require a yellow fever certificate?

I have a US passport but I;m visiting Nicaragua back to the US for five days and then to China. It says if I am coming directly from a yellow fever area (some countries consider Nica to be one but the world health organization doesn't) or I have seen some places that say within six days.

Do you think this will be a problem?

I've visited a few countries that are considered to be in the yellow fever area and I've never once been asked to show my inoculation certificate. Most of the time I would do a transit stop for a few days in a third country, like England, France or the USA and I have never been asked to show the booklet.

I also have a US passport and when I travel to Panama and Colombia, from Thailand, I would use my US passport and I would stop by LA and no one ever ask for the certificate either.

I would still highly recommend that you get the shot and it will last for 10 years. Better safe than sorry!

I have visited quite a number of yellow fever areas mostly in Africa and Southe America. I don't know about China but I have been asked for the certificate in a handful of countries (mostly within Africa and usually by officials looking to earn a few dollars from those without the certificate!!) As Hanuman says, get the shot and you don't have to worry about it for another 10 years.

If they do ask for the certificate and you don't have it, your options are limited. Some places will simply not allow you into the country, which means you have to leave immediately. This typically entails buying a full price ticket to fly you somewhere the lack of certificate won't be a problem. Other places will offer to give you a yellow fever shot.

PS Just a note for those reading this post and wondering about yellow fever in CHina. There is no yellow fever in CHina or elsewhere in Asia, this question is about arriving from a yellow fever country.

I never had to show theis on any entry to China. I do bring my innoculation booklets with me ass i travel a bit for work but the only time I was afraid of being stopped was when entering Osaka and theyer was a quarantine booth and if you delt ill or looked it they would question you...I just got sick as the plane landed was sweating bulletts and waltzed past to get outside for some air...just a bit of tummy big from the plane and i knew that!

SiobhanP, are you talking about when you arrived in China from a yellow fever country? I've never ben asked for my yellow book on arrival in China either, but I've never flown there from a yellow fever country.
