yangzhi river cruise

Has anyone taken the river cruise from Chongqing to Wuhan either via Victoria Cruise or other cruises? I want to know how the scenery it's now that the dam is half way complete. I am planning on taken a cruise in late May or early June 2005 via a tour package from HK. Any advice or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Max10,
I took the cruise down the river in November 04. The scenery is amazing, i was told even better than before. Now that there is more water you are able to take smaller boats (offered during the cruise) into very very small canyons and it was just majestic. Go and enjoy

Danie,

Did you book that cruise when you arrive in China or from aboard? How was the cruise itself? Thanks.

A few years ago, before the flooding, we took the boat down the Yangtze. One side trip we took was a small sampan up the Daning river, one of the lesser gorges. I am not sure if it was any better or worse than what is available now, but it was a remarkable boat ride. ((R))

I've been on Victoria cruises both before and after the reservoir was filled. Each trip was booked from home, not in China.

The scenery is still wonderful, though I could see changes and knew what was missing, especially the town surrounding Shibaozhai (the pagoda against the hugh rock) and other cities that are moved across the river or higher up the banks. I wouldn't say it's better than before, but also it's not "too late," as the hype went before the dam was partially finished.

Victoria usually stops at Wushan for the ride up one of the tributaries. Previously, you transferred to a small boat that held about 35 people and could usually only go as far as the first or second of the "Three Lesser Gorges." Now, with the higher water level, you transfer to a ferry -- all passengers can fit on this on two levels -- and you sail much farther into the gorges, way beyond the farthest I'd ever been before. You lose the feeling of being right down on the water and can no longer hunt for distinctive rocks, which are under many feet of water now, but it's still photogenic and it's easier to see the cave with the hanging coffin in it as you're much closer to it!

Incidentally, your cruise possibly won't go as far as Wuhan. Many of them are ending at the site of the new dam with flights out of Yichang or busses to Wuhan.

We are taking the VIctoria cruise from Chongqing to Yichang where we disembark then take a motor coach ride to Wuhan. I have been trying to find what the daily excursions are? However, I can't find anything on the internet? Does anybody know what the daily excursions are and whether or not there is a web site with the info

I think it might be on their website.
