Yangtze Cruise ?'s

We are heading on a 7 day cruise from
Chongqing to Shanghi and are hoping
someone out here can help with
a couple of questions:Is tipping done like on American cruises? What do people wear for those "formal" evenings? should my husband pack a tie and jacket? On American cruises we have always brought a bottle of something with us. Can we do the same on this cruise?
Thanks for any help

Tipping - yes, at the end of the cruise. (+ tipping for local guides for at the end of onshore excursions)

Pack a tie for the formal evening definitely. Jacket not necessary but may depend on which cruise company you are going with?!
Tips vary by shipping company ... typically $3 to $7 a day per passenger. Also, "smart casual" is pretty safe for dinner attire.

Just back from cruise on MS East King. No tipping expected. No jacket or tie required or needed. Very casual on river cruise ships. Very windy in gorges, take rain jacket with hood.

Just returned. You will need a face mask to protect your throat from the pollution on the river. My wife and I experienced severe sore throats. Many on the tour had masks.

On Victoria Cruises there were very few men with ties or jackets. Some of the ladies dressed a little but not like on a Royal Caribbean or similar cruise.

China was wonderful, scenic and a do not miss trip. The people are very friendly, punctual and hard working.
