Xian to Guilin by Plane, then Yangshou

Hi - We would like to travel from Xian to Guilin by plane in late Nov. I look on ctrip and see 3 flights a day by either Air China, China Eastern, or China Southern Air.
1) Is it best to buy flights now or do they add more flights as it gets closer to date?
2) Is one airline better than the other or it does not matter and pick based on schedule?
3) Is it best to buy directly from the airline website or from an agency?
4) Do they do etickets?

Once we arrive in Guilin, we want to go straight to Yangshou.
5) What is the best way to get there? If taxi, around how much?
6) Any hotel recommendations in Yangshou?
Thanks in advance.

If your travel plans are firmed I would buy the ticket as soon as possible.

From the airline that you've listed I've flown on China Eastern and China Southern. I would google the airline's name for safety records but I did not experience any mishaps.

Best or quickest way to travel from Guilin to Yangshuo will be by a car or van, around 1.5 or 2 hours from memory. Most scenic way will be by the river cruisers or tour boats but you will have to go INTO Guilin town itself to do this. The airport is not in town and if you want to go directly to your hotels in Yangshuo then you don't need to go into Guilin.

For more details I would search the trip reports.

I found the airlines to all be about the same as far as service. The easiest way to get from airport to Yangshuo is by taxi, maybe $45USD. The cheaper way is to take a bus into Guilin and transfer to another bus to Yangshuo, but this will add at least 90 min to the trip.

A great hotel in Yangshuo is Li River Retreat-- highly recommended.

We went from Guilin to Yanghuo by boat on the Li River. It was a rainy day but absolutely beautiful. It was part of our tour with China Odyssey. Yangshuo was fantastic!

agreeing with Millie...we enjoyed the li River trip so much back in 1984, we were determined to do it again in '07...we did. The differences in the region were nothing short of shocking. Same can be said for BJ, Shanghai, Xian, etc.Highly recommend it, Labern...also here are some pix that may give you a feel for the area.

Labern...I should have mentioned that we hired Jade Leo so we could have his driver takes us to the terraced fields. For picking us up at Guilin aiprort (and reurning us) and for the day and evening in Yangshuo and then to the terraced fields in Longshen/Longji, his rates were very reasonable..and well worth it IMO...absolutely void of any logistics problems.
Several Fodorites have used his services.

Most companies can do etickets nowadays. Provide them with your basic information and send them the money, they will book it for you. Be aware that discount tickets can not be executed transfer, rescheduling or refund.

Do not book too early in China. No more flights will be added but as this is low season, prices may go down. If you use ctrip you can estimate how low prices go (they have a chart showing how prices vary). After you pay you will get an email confirmation. At the airport you just find the airline's counter and give your passport. No ticket required.
No point booking with the airlines's website. Most often the english version does not work. The airlines are quite similar, choose base on fare and schedule.
Have you hotel send a taxi from Yangshuo to pick you up. About 280RMB for a one hour drive. Going to Guilin is a useless detour.
