Xian, China
Need suggestions on cheapest tours to Terra Cotta Warriors, not on own. Is it best to book with the hotel I am staying in or a company before I leave?
What else is worth seeing in Xian, I have 2 days. Any suggestions on hotels in Xian, I like a nice hotel about 4 star? Thanks |
We just returned this month but I cannot help with a tour as we did not want a tour. We don't speak Mandarin, had done our research on the warriors and were well-versed in the history so no guide was needed. Also, the tours take you to the shop to see how the warriors are made so you will buy trinkets but we had seen that on the Travel Channel already so no need for that, too.
Hotel: We stayed at Citadines which was so conveniently located. We had the best rooms located on the corner with wall-to-ceiling windows and the Drum Tower and skyline was in view (through the pollution, that is). I'm not aware of a plush place to stay. This was nice. They claim it's a 4.5 star and I would say it's more of a 3.5-4 max. I would highly recommend it for it location, rooms, and helpful staff. Train station is just a short 10-minute cab ride away. Other things to see/do: Muslim Quarter for its vibrant food and trinkets. It's very exciting at night and the street food is fantastic. Also, the Bell & Drum Tower, riding a bike along the city wall. It took us a little over an hour and gave us great views of the old city within and the new city outside. We did a lot of walking around just to take in the city, too. Check your bike out before taking off on your ride. Hope that helps get you started. |
Mount Hua is about 100 miles away from downtown Xian!
