Would it be unwise for a 27 year old female to travel alone to Thailand?

I've wanted to travel to Thailand for an adventure for years and years. But i've not been lucky enough to find anyone who shares the same passion, and therefore have never had any opportunuties to travel there with someone.

Well, i'm not getting younger so I think I might be brave and go at the end of this year. When I ask people's views it's pretty mjuch a mixed bag. Many say that I should go for it and that it's a friendly country and i'll meet an abundance of travellers once there.
And then the other say it's extremely dangerous travelling alone as a young woman.

I like to think I have my wits about me and a healthy intuitive sense! I want to go for about three weeks and visit Ko Panghan, Ko Tao, Ko Phi Phi...kind of areas.

Should I just go it? And will I meet lots of fellow travellers? What if no-one talks to me? I don't want to just latch myself onto to someone and become a burden. Grrr, and so the reservations kick in!

Might review correct crime/safety info here

crime rate in Bangkok lower than most US cities.

Overall safe if careful for me choose top

www.hostelbookers.com hostels for travel buds

money belt buddy system buy your own drinks etc.

www.insuremytrip.com always cheap wise civil unrest

has been an issue...but it is WONDERFUL well worth a visit.

Well, I'm not 27, but I am female, and I HAVE travelled to Thailand solo a number of times. But that said, I did not go alone until maybe my 10th trip there. I had a family member always with me prior to that (either husband or son). I appreciate that I had someone to show me around those first trips. Now I feel right at home in Thailand.

It is a safe and friendly country. I would go!

You say 'end of this year'... if that means for the holidays, I'll be there at that time as well!

Do you have that uncommon quality - common sense? If you do, I'd say go. I'm not sure what your friends think is so dangerous about Thailand. Yes, Thailand has had civil unrest. But tourists have never been targeted. If you see a big demonstration, turn around and go the other way.

Are you really going halfway around the world just to visit beaches? Let me recommend you not confine yourself to beaches. Thailand has a lot to offer. Do spend some time in Bangkok, and consider some time in Northern Thailand as well.

Yes, I too say go for it. I agree with Kathie that common sense is really all that is required.
However, I disagree with Kathie about the beaches.....as we have done before.

I don't say confine yourself to the beach... but equally...don't skip it.
Lynda and I have visited beaches all over the world and are only compelled to return again and again to Thai beaches. Phi Phi in particular. The north east coast of Phi Phi Don is really very unique.
A short stay in Bangkok and maybe a visit to the north, followed by some serious beach time!!!
But then again, we have made several trips to the beach only. So......it's what YOU want.

I don't think a solo female travelling in Thailand poses particular problems.

What time of year are you thinking of?

The vast majority of those who get into trouble in Thailand are those who are partaking in questionable activities.

Don't party too hard, keep your wits, and you should be just fine.
