Woodland Hills Inn - Bangkok

This appears to be a budget class hotel. Can anyone comment on it's location, cleanliness, service, etc.? Thanks!

rhkkmk Oct 19th, 2004 08:01 AM

i would rank it right up there with the oriental hotel

BillT Oct 19th, 2004 08:46 AM

Bob - your getting a bit sarcastic now that the Red Sox are winning again!

rhkkmk Oct 19th, 2004 09:06 AM

Looks OK:

Woodlands Inn, established in 1995, is a first class budget hotel, consisting of 75 luxurious guestrooms matched with the warm and friendly service of the South Indian management team.

Consisting of Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, Urdu, Thai and English speaking trained staff provide a service to make you feel at home away from home.

The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Bangkok with shopping, business and entertainment centres within walking distance. We are only 500 meters away from the famous Chao Praya River, 1.6 km from Hualumphong Bangkok Central Railway Station and approximately 30 minutes from Don Muang Bangkok International Airport.

But I think the warm and friendly service may be overdone at times.

First Class Luxury Budget- I'm not sure what to make of that description.

orgy7 Oct 20th, 2004 07:32 AM

lux budget maybe means a clean place with everything a normal traveler would need. minus swimmng pools, rip off resteraunts, and spas. Pluss you don't get the opertunity too show off and say "look at me I stayed at the orientel look at me im so rich and frivalous."....

lol.. yep I know how Red sox fans get when they string more then 2 wins in a row. we yankee fans do talk junk but we can back it up....

orgy7 Oct 20th, 2004 07:34 AM

where is it located?

rhkkmk Oct 20th, 2004 07:37 AM

i'm still skeptical... who has stayed there of visited there??

write up above almost looks like an "inside job"---"the we"

hipvirgochick Oct 20th, 2004 07:51 AM

For orgy7 -
WOODLANDS INN
1158/5-7 CHAROEN KRUNG 32 ROAD,
BANGRAK,BANGKOK 10500
Located between the Oriental and Sheraton, I believe.
Has anyone stayed here?

BillT Oct 20th, 2004 08:01 AM

Rich and frivalous is of course a relative thing- compare Oriental rates to those of Amapulo resorts and the Oriental looks like a budget option.
To some the hotel is not an important part of the vacation experience and so budget properties meet their needs and don't chew up much of the vacation budget. For others the hotel is an integral part of the vacation experience and thus the popularity of hotels like the Penn and Oriental.

rhkkmk Oct 20th, 2004 05:31 PM

harmonique is on soi 34 so it is the next street to this hotel...do they have a web site? i'll have to search

rhkkmk Oct 20th, 2004 07:52 PM

i just looked at it....at $9 a nite how can it even be livable?

orgy7 Oct 20th, 2004 09:06 PM

bob, bob.. oh bob.. obviously you've never backpacked. I cant imagine what you'd pack..

at $9 it is actually in the midle end of the guesthouse/budget spectrum...

and it could be verry livable I've stayed in many $10 hotels that had clean king size bed, on suit bathrooms, and cable TV .

and in bkk you could get an apartmnet for one week like Stary place.. which avreges about 9-10 bucks a day and it even has a nice litle gym..

www.staryplace.com

BillT Oct 21st, 2004 04:43 AM

Ok but at $9/night lets agree words like First Class, Luxury do not apply.
How about clean, safe, functional, value oriented.
Nothing wrong with these places- to each his own.

rhkkmk Oct 21st, 2004 09:30 AM

orgy....i'm not going there and you are right i am not a back packer, never was, unfortunately....i do remember one multi-bed room in amsterdam in 1965....

orgy7 Oct 21st, 2004 07:31 PM

BIll/RHK.. IM with ya on the way it was advertised... and I also think some cut and paste was used .. As someone who's stayed in some sh--holes that were well writen about in lonely planet. I would also have some suspisions. but I think people who are willing too pay less then $10 for travel lodging , tend not too be high maintnence and probably expect the worse.
