Wine tasting holiday!

Hi there! Me and my BF are planning a long weekend away in the next month or so and were wondering if we could go somewhere that incorporated wine tasting into our holiday. I've heard of this in EU but have not heard of it in Asia. Does anyone know of a place where they do this? We do love our wine :)

Since you tagged this post for Hong Kong I don't know if this information is relevant or not. In Thailand you can do tastings with the local wine producers around Khao Yai, Hua Hin and on the outskirt of Bangkok.

Where are you flying from? For a long weekend, you'd want the place to be pretty close to you, not requiring, say, a 12-hour flight.

A number of countries in Asia do produce wine, including, as Hanuman mentioned, Thailand, but also China, even Burma. I haven't tasted any Asian wine that comes close to French wines, for instance. Perhaps the major wine producing area closest to Asia is in Australia or New Zealand.

Finally! Thank you, I've been on some other forums and was getting no where. Will definitely focus on these possibilities.
(Oh, and yes. Looking to get out of HK.)

I don’t consider Australia and NZ to be in “Asia” which is why it did not occur to me that you would want to go there. But certainly look at the Margaret River area of Australia. Tons of wineries and hotels. That would be the best choice. NZ may also work, but is a further flight from Hong Kong so does not work as well for a short holiday, IMO. Even Australia may be tough.

There are lots of nice places you can go in Asia, and you can find wine there (imported and domestic) but I don’t think you would find a lot of wineries (at least not in the public wine tasting sense) from what I can tell. In any event, the wines in Asia generally are probably not worth a holiday yet, I would say.

And I would not go to India in August for a holiday – too hot and too rainy in most places. Pune, one of the wine growing regions, would be cooler and drier than places like Delhi or Mumbai, but can be a pain to get to from Hong Kong for a long weekend. Himchal Pradesh, another wine growing area, is going to be rainy. The only place which might work is Bangalore, as there are some non-stop flights there from Hong Kong. But I don’t know anything about the wineries in the area.
