Which trip in Bali to take
In Bali, I plan to have a driver but can't decide what to see -it seems there are really three trips, East Bali (Sideman,Tenganan, Selat, etc) or Bedugul (Pacung, Munduk, lakes) or southwest (Tabanan, Mengwi, etc.) . I really don't think I want to spend more than one long day in a car. As far as what I like- 1 or 2 temples, unusual shopping, beautiful scenery, rice terraces and cloves, nutmeg, and other spices growing.
What are the suggestions from those of you that have spend greatl time in Bali?
Thank you

east bali is nice for the scenery with lots of terraces, etc....don't miss the judicial park.....
i thought the lakes day was the longest and least interesting honestly
there is a lot to see on back roads just around ubud too...
how about some 1/2 day rides..

so you wanna go to a calm place...
east side of bali,
there are Tenganan Village, very traditional village of balinese people...but inside the village, you could buy some handicraft from the villagers..not too crowded..quite dry..
Tenganan, one area with candi dasa beach, there's a few of resorts and hotels..usually, the beach at east side of bali is black sand beach and a lot of rock, cause it near Padang Bai Harbour (one of the places to go to gili trawangan or lombok)
not far from there, you can go to Taman Ujung Temple, quite beautiful temple, and a lot of couple who want to get married, take a photoshoot there..
a little bit far, you could reach Amed and Tulamben, a place for divers..or snorkle...at Tulamben, you can dive and seean USSR ship, a sinking ship from warworld..a way to tulamben, you can see a very beautiful scenery of ricefield...very beautiful
and on east side of bali, the background scenery is Mount Agung, the biggest mountain in Bali...
but mostly, Bali East Side is quite calm, hard to find a place that still open till midnight..but if you're a kind of person who like calm place, not a problem at all..
Bedugul..
You can go to Ulun Danu Beratan temple, a temple above the lake water..than go a little bit higher, you can see danau Buyan, further you can go to GitGit waterfall, 3 levels of waterfall..well if you go further you could reach lovina...at lovina you can sail with the boat to meet dolpin on the sea...a lot of resorts and hotels too, but still a calm place to stay...
at southwest, beside tabanan, you can go to canggu maybe..
but if i read your interest, like rice terrace, unusual shopping and growing..Ubud is the place..but if you go to bali east side, it takes a lot of time on your car..

Looking at your three options, I will definitely leave the latter (Tabanan, Mengwi) because the road can get really busy there.
But if you want to see temples, ricefields and plantations all in one trip then the Sideman-Selat route passing Rendang is a great option stopping at Bedugul temple and Goa Gajah.
Or if you plan to head to Bedugul you can also ask driver to pass Jatiluwih on the way back, where you see can see amazing ricefields.
If you want to have more detail routes that I really love you can check http://www.bali-travel-life.com/bali...ghtseeing.html or http://www.bali-travel-life.com/volc...ghtseeing.html.
You can mentioned to your driver the route and he will definitely know where to go. Good luck on planning your trip!

If you have not got a driver yet, the one we have used for the last 4 years has been great. He is not only a driver but a certified guide and speaks excellent English and knows his way around. I would let him know what you want to see, and let him map it out for you, you may be able to see more than you think. email: [email protected]
He lives in Denpasar and we also have him pick us up at the hotel and take us on tours. Make sure you get someone who knows the area and something about the areas you want to see, anyone can drive you there, but not all can tell you about the place, Merta can .
