i guess my vote goes to Thailand, even because despite Singapore being a great city its crtainly not worth staying for an entire vacation. Thailand offers a mix of what you are looking for, great beaches in the south, decent shopping in Bangkok and Chang Mai and lots of culture and nature. Be preapred though for long transfers as the country is fairly large, internal flights are efficient and reasonably cheap. An option could be to fly with Singapore airlines and stay for a while in Singapore before flying into Bangkok

U can fly to Singapore first for some sightseeing and then take advantage of cheap flights to Malaysia and Thailand (Phuket is interesting, especially Phi Phi Island for the sea and beach).

Hi

My wife called Thailand the perfect vacation the other day. On one hand you have Bangkok with all it's beautiful wats, great shopping, great food and so on. And on the other hand you have beautiful beaches in the south. So you can combine a big city vacation with a beach vacation. We went to Thailand last September and we stayed in Bangkok for a few days. The we went down on Ao Nang (Krabi) and then back to Hua Hin. It was a great trip and I have posted a long travelogue with pictures from the trip on my homepage www.gardkarlsen.com. Maybe you can find some usefull information there

Regards
Gard

Hi Lesg,

I would recommend you going to Malaysia. We just got back from Malaysia and Singapore about 3 weeks ago. We loved it there! We spent most of our 2 weeks vacation in Malaysia only 3 days in Singapore(that's more than enough). A couple of days in Kuala Lumpur enjoying different cuisines, shopping, and the culture. After that, we went to the Perhentian Island off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The domestic flight is very cheap. We flew with Air Asia(www.airasia.com).it is their low-cost airline. Check out their airfare, you can't go wrong with that. The service was good too! We stayed on the island for 4 days and we wished we could stay longer. The beach was beautiful and clean. The hospitality we received was way above our expectation. The chalet we stayed at is called "Cocohut Chalet." www.cocohuttravel.com

We will definitely go back to Malaysia and see other parts of the country. Singapore is just another concrete jungle. Done that and we don't think we will go back there again.
