Which of these 3 Bangkok Hotels?

I have found 3 Riverside hotels which have had good reviews (tripadvisor and this board) for 4 nonweekend days in Feb. The Menam $55 us,the Royal Orchid 120 and the Marriot 135 (taxes inc). Are these 3 close by and are the Royal Orchid and Marriot worth twice the price in your opinion..and if so why? Thanks

travelbunny:

I would choose the Royal Orchid Sheraton as the location is excellent. The Mariott is on the other side of the river and is a little off the way.
Menan too is ok. But the Menan is not like to Royal Orchid. In front of the Royal Orchid as you walk towards the bank on the opposite side of the road they have excellent foot massages costing only a few dollars as well as good restaurants.

Cheers

travelbunny, Do a search on this site. The Royal Orchid Sheraton and Marriott have been written about to death.

..Thanks everyone. I did look up both the Orchid and Marriot..I really wanted to try to figure out whether to pay twice as much for one of these as compared to the Riverside Menan.

I just stayed at the Royal Orchid Sheraton, for one night, in August.I've eaten there many times on many past vacations to BK.I have stayed in many hotels in BK and I definitely didn't like the Royal Orchid and personally would not return. I had a standard room, but was shown several rooms at the Clu?) or whatever they call it level...Oh, the Towers, and it wasn't for me. I found the rooms dark and very clostophobic and overpriced, in my opinion. But, to each his own. Happy Travels!

We have to go with the marriott also! Yes it is on the other side of the river so take that into account. Also just get the standard room!

we stayed at the Marriott riverside in october. we had originally booked the menam butthanks to bob...we booked via priceline. we loved the marriott, its a resort...nice grounds, pool, spa and
easy to get around via the river or taxis.
we also went and saw the menam...no comparison...looked like a group hotel...
nothing fancy but adequate.
i look forward to staying at the marriott next year.

We stayed at both the Marriott & Sheraton in October. The Marriott is MUCH superior to the Sheraton. I consider the Marriott being across the river a plus. They give you a bottle of water and cold towel every return trip. The short boat ride itself is rather pleasant.

I got a deluxe river view room at Marriott for only $80 using Priceline-- I first checked www.biddingfortravel.com to find out how much to bid and in which area to "guarantee" we would get the Marriott-- I agree with all posters: Fabulous hotel!
