Which Airline to BKK?

I saw the post about United but I have a question regarding airlines.

We are going to be flying from Portland, OR to BKK in Feb. I have enough miles on NWA and my boyfriend has enough for United.

We are considering just buying a ticket and using our miles to upgrade to first class.

Unfortunately, NWA is charging almost $1400!! for the round trip flight and United is about the same.

Our other option is to fly on Korean Air or EVA air for about $900.

as much as we would like to fly first class on United or Northwest their fares are so high!

How is Korean Air as far as space, comfort and friendliness?

What about EVA air? I have read about the deluxe coach as well.

Thanks!

EVA's Evergreen Deluxe class is a great deal.

The upgrades you are talking about are from coach to Business Class, not first class. I always upgrade on United (from coach to business) and I don't pay nearly that much for my tickets (I'm in Seattle). You should be able to get an upgradeable fare on United for $1000 or less. NW is exceptionally hard to get upgrades.

If you are interested in frequent flier miles or if the trip will take you to the very frequent flier status on your airline, then go for it. Otherwise, I'd recommend EVA. If you have to fly coach, I believe they are all equally uncomfortable.

Korean Air & NWA are both Skyteam partners so you could possibly use NWA miles to upgrade (or purchase) Korean Air flights. $900 is most likely not an upgradeable fare.

I'm flying United in three weeks on an upgradeable ticket. The price is $1300+.

ANA is the best. This is the #1 airline that Thais themselves use. The stewardesses are so professional and nice and the plane is very clean. You won't be disappointed. Worth the extra price!

Mango7, what is ANA? I don't think that is an option from PDX.

Thanks everyone!

NW has the shortest travel time, as they fly PDX-NRT-BKK. Both legs are on their new A330-200 with AVOD (audio/video on demand) on all seats.

The fare right now for February is high most likely because they haven't released the cheap seats yet. But with oil prices this high and travel demand good, you may not see prices come down too much.

If you want to fly World Business Class, you can get them confirmed right now for ~$2,300 + 30k Miles. I think that's an excellent fare. 30k Miles is worth little, but $2,300 for confirmed WBC all 4 flights is actually not bad these days.

you might check flight leaving from SEATAC. Sometime it's much cheaper for some reason. You can get a monthly parking at thrifty parking for $100 at SEATAC so figure that in.

Flwe with Eva Air earlier this year and I was very pleased with the service. Staff were most attentive etc

Go EVA Evergreen Deluxe Class for about $200 more than coach. We have flown them twice - once to Bangkok and then next to Manila and it was worth every penney. Seating is 2 x 4 x 2, seats are wider, more legroom, better food/service- its a no brainer!
We also got Continental Miles. I think NW is a partner so you may be able to get NW miles as well.

I like Eva too, especially the de-luxe economy for value for money and I am sure they fly from Seattle.
