Whereto in Malaysia?
 

I've visited Asia several times in the past <BR>few years and am thinking of trying Malaysia <BR>this time around. My friend and I, two <BR>fun-loving American males, plan on vacationing in mid-November. We love adventure, flora and fauna, as well as the Asian women. Langkawi? Penang?

<BR>The best advice I have seen is this - get outside KL! You are right, Penang is a good hangout place, as is Langkawi. But its a built up place and the only adventure and flora worth mentioning would be the sad ones in the hotel showrooms. Get into the interior like the National Park in Pahang, the Kenyir Lake in Trengganu or Borneo (Mulu caves etc) for the real stuff. For the city action, KL (tell the taxi driver to drop you off in Bangsar) cant be beat.

I agree with the above post. <BR> <BR>Get out of the concrete jungles. East Malaysia is lovely esp. the orangutan reserves. <BR> <BR>The National PArk in Pahang is great. Penang is great too... but a big tourist trap. <BR> <BR>

Hi, <BR> <BR>I was in Malaysia at the beginning of October '99. Khota Baru was my destination and for me it was just amazing and perfect. <BR> <BR>The waterfalls and jungles are easily accessible by tour packages arranged from traveler's hotels. I rented a bicycle and headed to the beaches of the China Sea. Now that was cool. The batik factories along the way were my rest stops. KB has the liveliest night Market and there are just so many food stalls and exotic things. <BR> <BR>The people were just amazingly friendly and the children are as curious about you as your are about them. I always felt safe even thought I was traveling alone. <BR> <BR>I then took the 6 am jungle train down to Singapore and that sure was an interesting ride. The scenery was beautiful and it was great to stop along the way in these rural towns. <BR> <BR>Not sure about the women here, it was very Muslim. <BR> <BR>Good luck and have a safe trip!! <BR>

Why has nobody mentioned the Cameron Highlands? Great walking and hiking, and so cool weather wise. Range of accommodation to suit all tastes and pockets. Tanah Rata is the best base for hikes.

Agree with Roger on the Cameron Highlands. Cool, beautiful, terraced tea fields, native villages along the way.
