Where to stay and shop?
I'm going to be in Bangkok for 1.5 days in March. Any ideas on where to stay that is close to the shopping markets? Looking to buy clothes (and have them made) and scarves, jewelery and art.
Want to spend around $80US per night and have good comfort and clean accomodations (especially in the bathroom) Thanks! |
A convenient one is the Novotel Siam Square which is just next to the Siam Skytrain station and a few shopping centres like the Siam Centre and Discovery Centre. It's a 4-star hotel and is becoming more and more popular. Advance booking is a must.

1.5 or 15 days.. I'm not too sure how many cloths you can have made in a day..

Good point, orgy, it takes time to have clothes custom made. Any place that says they can have them for you in 24 hours - run away. In order to have well-made, well-fitting clothes you'll need at least a couple of fittings.
|
That is true about the 24 turnaround...when the suits come back they are usually like "did you make this for the jolly green giant and he never picked it up?"
You need at least 2 fittings to get it right or it will generally loko average. Try the Pathumwan Princess....attached to MBK...the best shopping in BKK...and next to siam square, siam centre and siam discovery. Do a search on Mah Boon Krong (MBK) and be amazed! adam |
forget having clothes made in less than 4 or more days....
some have suggested the chateau de bangkok as a good location which it is right in the middle of shopping area---1/2 way in either direction to it all.. take a looke at www.huahin.20m.com i have just booked almost all my 32 days thailand stay on this forum....scroll down to "other bangkok locations" and click on that and then drop down the top window and choose "bangkok city"...all inclusive rates listed by street.... easy to use...they charge 100B for credit card usage... the centre point locations are good....laung suan rd, silom, wireless rd locations would all be good for you... being near to the sky train is the key to getting around in bkk.... the holiday inn on silom is a good choice to....i have booked it for $45 as a 4 star hotel on priceline in the silom/riverside area....it is about $65 or so on the site above and that includes breakfast...not a bad choice.. the closer to $80 you stay the happier you will be....a pool is a great asset in bkk also, believe it or not... oakwood serviced apartments are another good deal... |
Thank you so much!!! Your advice is amazing - no jolly green giant suits for me! :o)
