where to go in Malysia
 

My wife and I will be in Malaysia for 10 <BR>days in early February. Does anyone have recommendations of what we should see and do while there? We are both over 65 so not interested in the nightlife. <BR>Thanks for any suggestions.

1. Kuala Lumpur -- its a fascinating city. A day or two is probably sufficient, but well worth it. <BR> <BR>2. Malacca -- Still haven't made it there, but I've heard great things. <BR> <BR>3. Tioman Island -- If you want a beach location, this is a beautiful place. Fly from KL or take a ferry from Singapore. <BR> <BR>4. Penang -- Actually, this is one place I might skip. Although we enjoyed our time there, we didn't find it nearly as interesting as the rest of the country. <BR> <BR>Please let me know if you have any questions.

I would basically go along with Amy's assessment. Everything in Malaysia is easily doable on your own. There is an excellent transport system and the country is very safe. <BR>Penang is very much overrated, but you would enjoy Tioman and the other islands off the east coast. Malacca is worth a day for its historical interest. The Cameron Highlands are a must-see, particularly if you like walking. There is enough here for three days. Also the Taman Negara (National Park) is splendid although probably best done as a tour. <BR>Langkawi island is a pleasant alternative to Penang, but not as commercialised. Also the East coast itself from Mersing up to the border with Thailand is interesting as it is more 'Malay' than the west and south which are dominated by the Chinese.

I agree, there are many excellent places to visit (easily) in Malaysia. I'd allow at least 2 days in KL (my favourite Asian city) and try for a few days relaxing on Langkawi (at the Andaman at Datai Bay if the budget allows - it's excellent).

You must see Malacca for its historical importance. Also, you may want to check out Cherating/Kuantan, probably one of the best beaches in the world.
