My daughter is leaving for Thailand and will be traveling around southern Asia for 5 months. The cost for malarone here in the U.S. is very expensive as you know and is not covered under her insurance. If she got a 2 month supply here, would she be able to buy more there when she runs out at a cheaper price?

No. I don't know of anywhere in South Asia where it is available. It will be as expensive if not more so anywhere she can find it (limited availability and requires a doctor's visit in Singapore, KL, perhaps Bumrungrad in Bangkok). Malarone is available as a generic in the US, which lowers the price only a little. Often, the least expensive place to buy it is Costco. She should take along all she will need.

Very inexpensive? When we bought the generic in November, it was marignally less than the name brand. Did your insurance cover it, crosscheck?

Yes, our insurance covered it, but it was super cheap on its own, compared to last time when it was outrageous. A friend just bought it at Walgreens (not covered) and I think it was about $1 per tablet.

It could also be differently priced in different states - I think it was pretty cheap here in September as well.

Thanks so much, crosscheck, for the goodrx link. We checked everywhere, including Costco, and a 2-months supply, even with the generic, was $380 or more. With the coupon on the link, we were able to get it for $187. Still expensive, but quite a savings. Half hour before the pharmacy closed, my daughter's flight leaving tomorrow -- just in time. I love these forums.
