Jordan! Perta is electrifying! Walking though the mountain to get there is amazing! And the Roman ruins at Jerash are the best preserved I've seen. Enjoy! It's a place I'd return to.

Forgot to mention that I'll be in LA in two weeks, then off to BKK in July. Europe will be in late November, early December. Hawaii?? Maybe in September.
|
Just back from 10 days in Mexico: San Cristobal de l as Casas in Chaipas and 4 days at La Casa Que Canta in Zihuantenejo.
Leave for France May 25 for 16 days. Paris 5 days, Burgundy for special wine weekend, 7 days Provence. December we take our longest trip ever, 26 days: Bangkok then Phuket for 3 days, Bhutan 10 days, Rajasthan 10 days. Let the good times roll! |
Robbie -- haven't been to Mexico for years but those are two of my favorite places.
Next? I would have said Siem Reap/Thailand or Myanmar but with the possible transfer in 2008 it's hard to plan. I'm going to spend the next 9 months doing things in NYC and on the East Coast I've taken for granted for years -- July is Cape Cod, time with the baby niece and nephew and their parents, and the Police concert at Fenway Park. |
Next is home to Orange County, California. Leaving Krakow, Poland, today, Sunday, for Munich and then to LAX on Monday.
|
China and Japan in June. Will probably take a week in August to Tahoe.
Just found out the kids have 12 days off after Christmas. Any suggestions? |
Nothing at all exciting for us ! Every time we think about perhaps going down to Queensland again we think about flights and costs and end up just taking local trips !
A couple of trips down to Phuket for me on business but for family trips it tends to be Isan or down the Gulf Coast. The wagon is due to be loaded up soon, dogs and all down to HH and Bang Saphan and a few days on Koh Talu. It's family fun and we enjoy taking the dogs along too, and that's what matters. We still have snow in Japan on the list, it has become a family joke as we have been planning to do it almost every year! HK Disney also on the list ( that I am dreading ! ). |
Two weeks in Israel early next month. Vietnam February 2008.
|
Off to Costa Rica for 2 1/2 weeks in 28 days and counting! Can't wait! Bring on the monkeys! :)
|
james i am bringing you some snow next visit to thailand!!
|
Hawaii in July.
Aruba in September. Thailand in February 2008. |
Yey! I have a (surprise) trip to add to the list.
I just found out that my husband and 4 friends have been conspiring about my upcoming "round number" birthday.....they will all be flying down to the British Virgin Islands next month and we'll be doing a charter on a 50' sailboat. |
We're thinking of several options
1. India with a visit to Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as well as Bangladesh 2. Syria, Lebanon and perhaps Iraq if we can find a good trip to that area 3. Southeastern Europe/Caucasus Mountain region. 4. South America/Peru Those are the 4 areas on my short list for the next year. If budget and time allow I may try to do 2 of these in the next year. I can do Peru/Incan Empire archaeology in about a week, I think, which is what I have left for vacation this year. Mark- |

Well, we've been to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos & China this year...hmmm...
We're a military family stationed in Korea, and sadly, we're leaving after 5 years. I will miss reading all of you everyday! But, fortunately, our next assignment is Heidelberg, Germany! I guess we'll have to switch forums soon. Thanks for all of the info and inspiration here on the Asia Forum, Fodorites! We'll stopover for a week in Seward, Alaska, then Chicago, then Rhode Island, then Long Island, then Heidelberg, Germany!! Achtung! Happy Travels to all of you as we leave our hearts in Asia! |
San Diego, LA GTG, and Portland Oregon early May
Vietnam and Bangkok with the Fabulous Four Foodies, late May San Diego in Mid June Question--How is Costa Rica in Late July??? |
July is the green or rainy season. By the way, this site is has an enormous amount of info on Costa Rica. We are going there Monday for our 3rd trip. 2nd trip during the "green season". We choose this season again because it has less people and rain makes everything green, fresh and beautiful. It is typically not monsoon or anything. I think 2-3 summers ago there was an extraordinary amount of rain - as in the entire Caribbean. Some days it doesn't even rain and usually if it does it is just for 1-2 hours at the most. It is also cheaper of course. We are just so hooked on rain forests and the wildlife - we take a poncho and barely even notice or care. That is why the call it a rain forest after all. One great thing in July is the turtles lay their eggs on the beach. You can go out and help the scientists do egg counts, etc. Way fun.

We were wandering around Morocco in a beatup Peugout when this thread started. (hint, never book with Budget.com for a car in Morocco). Anyway, I'd compare Morocco favorably with southeast Asia for the chance to meet and talk local people, so we really enjoyed it. The next trip, well I guess it's going to be to Australia, but I don't count it as a "trip" trip, as it's mostly to visit family. The next holiday afterwards I thought was going to be probably Peru, maybe Bolivia too. But we've been missing SE Asia. So the conversations the last couple of days since we got back have been about either Vietnam, Laos or finding some new areas of Cambodia such as Ratanakiri to try out. Not sure which trip we'll take yet! |
Poor Cruisinred, having to trade in Asia for Africa ;) I think I would have noticed on the Africa board, but might we cross paths in South Africa? Late June, early July of this year.
|
Change of plans already!
We will probably now spend a month in Japan Late March thru late April early May 2008. Nagasaki to Sapporo and a few spots in between. Aloha! |
Hi everybody - I am new to the Asia board. We are in the beginning stages of planning a trip to SE Asia in mid 2008. I am really excited. I've been to Japan twice for work, but other than that, I haven't been anywhere in Asia. But my husband and I have been invited by a friend to come to Singapore, so we are planning a trip that will also coincide with my completion of graduate school. Yay.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello :) I have been reading the board for a couple weeks now and find it very good. |
I just booked a tour to China for October, returned from Costa Rica in February. Ain't life grand??????

Welcome to the Asia forum. I think you will find that the advice on this board is very well intended. People who post here and often very frequent travelers to Asia and are very willing to share their experiences. Let us know where else you plan to visit in SE Asia. We probably have folks here who've "been there, done that" and would like to tell you about it. Carol Carol |
I'ver been doing 1-2 trips to asia per year for the past 7 years, with other areas of the world mixed in.
I've had my fill of asia for awhile, will be spending a month in italy, turkey, greece and croatia this fall. maybe back to asia in 08 or 09. |
Hopefully Kyoto in July..Palawan on the next long weekend we manage...
|
In two days time heading for Thailand and then onto Cambodia. Can hardly wait to go back there :)
|
In about two weeks I will go to Vegas, Yosemite, and San Francisco all in the span of five days.
I like ht's plan. |
After 3 years in a row to Thailand, dh felt it was not a good move to keep repeating. ( I'm in a sad state as I would like nothing better than to return)
So for Nov we will be a month in Florida and Jan/Feb will be in Hawaii. Now how can a person be not too happy to be going to Hawaii for a month??? I'll tell you why, they have been bitten by the Thai bug. Sue |
Didn't even think that short US trips counted... we are currently at Lake Tahoe CA for the week. Have enjoyed a couple of wonderful days,so far with breathtaking scenery. Next month to Portland, OR for a five day trip, June to New York a long weekend, August to SanDiego Ca for a few days. These trips keep coming up as I see fantastic air fares. Just achieved a 2 million mile flier status with American Airlines, and from now on I'm Platinumn and earn 2x miles for all trips. - Saving for Bus Class for Thai in 09

Thanks Carol :) Once we get further into the planning process, I will definitely be seeking advice from the board.

I love nature and want to comb the "Wallace Line", a seam designated by Alfred Wallace that is located between Asian and Australian fauna in the Malay Archipelago. It passes between Bali and Lombok islands and between Borneo and Sulawesi.
|
last year we went to Iceland, Galapagos and Argentina (patagonia), this year, (actually next week), India, Nepal and Bhutan....
