January is the most pleasant month weatherwise and is considered the peak time of the tourist season. But November is not bad either and has the advantage that hotel prices will be a little cheaper since the season is just starting around that time.

I'm assuming that you are a first time traveler and will focus on the north, Delhi, Rajashtan, etc. Weather wise Jan has the edge - Nov can still be warm. Agtoau is quite right tho that price wise you will pay top dollar for Jan, Nov you may still get some deals.

Hi,
November as well as January - are good times to travel to India - primarily because the weather in these months is good....(summer months tend to be too hot..)..
But there is a flip side to this as well...winter months like November to Feb/March are good weather wise - but bad rate wise...this is also the Peak Season time and all hotels have high season rates during this time....
Rate wise shoulder periods like September and April are better - if you are budget conscious...
---
Let me know where all you wish to travel...so that I can give you more suggestions.....
All the best
