When to go?

I have the choice to visit Singapore at the end of April or early June. Is either of those times preferable regarding weather or are they much the same? Thank you.

In terms of temps/humidity and rainfall, April and June are much the same in my experience when living there. The rainier months in Singapore are the winter months.

So you might want to consider holidays/festivals and other events which may be happening in either month, as that may make one month a better time to go. Check cultural websites for concerts, art festivals, etc. There may be religious festivals going on as well, esp in the Buddhist and Hindu communities (Ramadan is in August, and Id/Hari Raya Puasa is at the end of August). There are no public holidays in June as far as I know, and the only public holiday in April is Good Friday.

Isn't the National Shopping week, or whatever it's called, in June?

My daugter(who lived there from January to June) said she preferred April to June, as it was a bit cooler. Better fruit in June though...mangosteen, durian, rambutan.

Thank you both for that. Cicerone, is there no end to your knowledge? I have copious notes on my favourite place ( Hong Kong ) taken straight from your suggestions and now Singapore!

I'd say the weather is more or less the same. End of April is Easter week and school holiday time so you may see an upspike in hotel rates.

Thanks marmot.

both months pretty muggy but probably April for me

Thank you qwovadis. Seems there is a slight preference for April. My quandry is going from Sydney to Europe and wanting to break the journey both ways.I have not been to Singapore for years and I am getting withdrawal symptoms for Hong Kong again. My original intention was to leave towards the end of April and get back early June. So I thought maybe Singapore on the way and Hong Kong on the way home. I really love Hong Kong but I think it may be spoiled in the humidity of June. It seems that it is only marginally different in Singapore. So I guess I will have to decide whether to forget HK and stop in Singapore both ways or put up with less than favourable weather. If anyone can suggest a better stopover destination , that would be helpful too.

It would be helpful to know where in Europe you are going, as that would probably affect stopovers. Vienna versus the UK would most likely result in a different flight routing.

KL, Bangkok, Tokyo, Dubai and Abu Dhabi are possible stopovers (latter two will be quite humid and hot in both April and June). Tokyo would be quite pleasant in both months. You can get a non-stop to Vancouver, IMO, a very nice little city for a stopover of a few days. You could go via the US, the west coast probably works best.

Hong Kong is pretty much as humid in April as it is in June, so I am not sure that makes a huge difference. Temps are warmer in June, but the plus side is that the air pollution is generally better in June as the summer winds blow from the water toward the mainland, which helps keep the mainland air pollution out. I actually prefer June to April here for that reason. The dragon boat festival is also in June, which can be a fun event to watch from various places.

Thank you Cicerone. Only Paris and London. Probably in that order though not necessarily.
