My husband and I have been travelling to Thailand for the past 10 years, at least once a year, with the exception of last year when we had our first child.

We would really like to go back to Thailand next month but we wonder if it is a good idea for a 1-year old to travel such a long way to Thailand.
He has got all of his shots, hep A and B incl. but I fear most dengue fever and the heat and dehydration.

As far as I can read it is not advisable to spray a child with deet (7%) repellent more than once a day, so I wonder what Thais use to protect their children from mosquito bites?

We are planning to stay 3 weeks visiting only Bangkok and Hua Hin.

If anyone has been in similar situation please comment, especially if taking a baby along turned out to be a very bad idea.

Alternatively we would travel to either Greece or Turkey, but it is Thailand we are in love with.

Some infants/toddlers do better than their parents with jetlag. You know your baby best. Consider how he/she would do on long flights, unfamiliar surroundings. etc.

A repellant containing picardin such as the one advised by qw, above, is fine for the baby or for you. BTW, a 7% deet preparation is not very effective. You need something in the 20-30% range.

You seem well-informed about the dehydration issue. You will have to be very conscientious about giving the baby lots of fluids.

Consult with your pediatrician, of course, but many people take youngsters with them to Thailand.

i see no problem with the locations you site... keep the kid drinking and in a/c often...

should not need bug repellent...

put the kid in pools from time to time...

Agreed, no problems ... we are going to Thailand with our 10-months baby girl in December in addition to our 3-years boy. We were there with him last Nov/Dec and he had a great time visiting many indoor and outdoor places:
