What's it like to live in.....

I am considering taking a job in Singapore (I am British). Any general advice - what's it like to live there (where should I live)? Any sites which I could use for further information.

Thanks in anticipation!

Sally-Anne: I know Singapore only as a tourist and I think living there can be quite a challenge. Singapore is not that "Asian", but something between Europe and China, roughly said. I could image myself living there for some time. Everything seems to be well organized.
The Tourist Office's website is:
www.newasia-singapore.com

It could be helpful for further info.
Good luck.

Be prepared for a drastic climate change as it is quite hot and humid for much of the year, quite different from the UK. You will find it to be a very clean and orderly city.

Try these:
www.gov.sg (Singapore govt website - has some useful links)
www.contactsingapore.org.sg (working/studying/living in singapore)

since they are official sites, tend to be pro-Singapore..
Hi Sally-Anne!
I lived in Singapore for 3 years and for the most part, found it to be a nice place to live. At first, it seemed very "Westernized" with Starbucks and McDonalds every where, but under that, the Chinese culture is very much present. You will not experience that until living there, though! The government is very orderly, too much so in many cases. It is very sterile and it will seem like there is little to do there after you have been there a month, but it is an excellent location to visit the rest of SE Asia.

It is always hot and humid, but all of the Brits that I knew there LOVED the weather and never wanted to return to the UK! There are a few "expatriate" sites that may be helpful...unfortunately, I can not find the adds right now. Try doing a www search for "expat in Singapore".

Hope this was helpful!
