What's doing in Langkawi?

I've been advised to visit this island in the Andaman Sea off the northern coast of Malaysia. I've never heard of it before. Overrun with tourists or pollution? Good food, moderate lodging, possible bicycling opportunities thru the countryside, interesting people and culture, and not too expensive?
All comments welcome.

I've been there twice. There are quite a lot of tourists but I would not call it overrun. Once I was there for a work offsite. We took a fun "island hopping" tour. The second time it was terribly stormy and I was really not that happy with my over the water bungalow. The sounds of the waves and storm actually made me seasick.

As far as bicycling, the roads are narrow and hilly but I wouldn't rule out cycling. There's a big mountain in the middle. I did not notice excessive pollution.
