What to do with a Layover in Taipei?
I'm headed on a solo trip to Vietnam and Cambodia and have a layover from 5pm to 10am the next morning (staying near the airport). I would love to see Taipei, but since I'm alone and don't have tons of time, I thought someone may be able to either suggest an area to focus on or possible night tours.
Thanks in advance, Lisa |
Is the National Palace Museum open the evening of your layover? If so, go see that.
Open daily from 08:30 to 18:30 all year round. Extension of opening hours at night: 18:30 - 21:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. |
Yes, I thought about that too, but unfortunately, I arrive on a week day at around 6pm, so I won't be able to see it. I'm disappointed.
I have seen a few night market tours and bike rides, which would be great, but most of them meet at 6 or 7 and will be traveling from the airport after going through customs and checking into my hotel. would appreciate any other thoughts. |
There are "layover" tours you can take from Seoul airport.
See: https://www.sleepinginairports.net/l...on-airport.htm |
But Thursdays, they will be in Taipei, not Seoul. Still, I expect there are tours from the Taipei airport.

Oops, brain obviously not engaged.
Looks like no tours and some thing shut down at 6:00 pm. https://www.sleepinginairports.net/a...icesFacilities Probably the night markets, or Taipei 101, are the best bets for evening. Or maybe the hot springs at Beitou will still be accessible - although I would recommend trying one of the hotels, not the communal area and it takes a while to get there. http://www.smarttravelasia.com/taipei.htm Not sure what the hours are for the Longshan Temple: http://eng.taiwan.net.tw/m1.aspx?sNo=0002090&id=93 |
Your best bet would be to get the train to Taipei Main Station An day the subway to Taipei 101. The views in daytime were fab. I suspect they would b even better at night. You could easily spend an hour or more there and maybe supper at the exquisite Din Tai Fung at the entrance level.
Raohe Night Market is huge. Atmospheric but v crowded at night but worth braving the masses for the excellent street food. Baoan Temple is worth considering. Beautiful when lit up at night and, if you have a look at the subway map it may be possible to combine with another sight. The Subway is very efficient. Some photos on our blog @ https://accidentalnomads.com/2017/07...rip-to-taipei/ Given that the Express only takes 35 mins from the aiprport, it may be better use of time if you stay near Taipei Main station. |
There are several places that I would recommend if you like art and photo taking, feel free to visit https://knycxjourneying.com/2017/03/...pei-insta-art/ for more details ~ :)
