What is a good hotel location for close by Tokyo street action?

I'd like to go to Tokyo Japan to take some photos of interesting street scenes. I'd like to be close to some good Japanese street action as opposed to bland high rise buildings all around me. Can you recommend an area/s that are good for this. Especially night action.

If your familiar with Amsterdam I just got back and stayed in the Dam Square area. The whole local was great for street photography within a 40 min walking radius.

I'd also like comfortable hotels. They don't have to be 5 star, but should be a decent size room that you can spread your gear around in.

Thanks

I suggest Ueno. Lots of people about, busy into small hours, and quite a bit downmarket than Shinjuku, Shibuya or Roppongi.
During the daytime, there is non-stop action on Ameya Yokocho with street vendors and stall holders.
Good hotels include Mitsui Garden Hotel and Coco Grand Hotel. Book a double/twin room for extra space.
