It's a version of tough love. No reason to enable his ridiculous behaviour. Plus, I'm not really rude just hyper aggressive.

I spend very little time on the Europe board now compared to a few years ago, due in part to the tone on the board......but I have to say it could be funny when it got going (i.e. Tip the Pilot, Elvira, The Vikings, Haggis in a Tube, etc etc etc)

Here's a link to a link for some of the funniest postings

I always report "live" when I'm traveling to Thailand. Happy to do so (it makes everyone jealous..haha).

I travel to Europe twice a year and have yet to do any sort of trip report on that forum. I've been flamed, so I don't post very often. I sometimes read posts on Switzerland and Italy and Germany, but find myself hesitant in giving advice.

The Asia forum is much more fun!!

(PS I also read but don't post in the lounge without first hesitating)

I meant to reply to your comment about CNN. You are soooooo right. DH wants to throw something at the TV when CNN Intl is on. Many times it is the only thing we can get in English.

I will be in BKK during both USA political conventions. We'll see how CNN does with reporting what is happening.

I am a former Europe Board regular.. and after 9/11 things got sooo downright nasty that I completely stopped posting at all even checking in. Now, I start revisiting other Talk Threads about 2 months in advance of a trip and have had great experiences. Pacific, Asia and Africa so far have all been great... but the Europe one is still pretty darned nasty.

<Europe one is still pretty darned nasty.>

Nasty? It's angelic compared to the Lounge. ;;) ((*))

I find that on these boards that you reap what you sow....took me a while to learn that though ;)

Aloha!

Wow, I'm going to have to get onto those European boards to check it out.

Since we moved from the northeast to Hawaii, our focus has been on the Asia boards, but when we traveled to Europe a lot before 9/11, I used the forum a lot and don't remember it being vitriolic.

One funny story though- we were in London getting on an elevator early one morning just as the election results announced Bush had won the first time.

There was a woman MP apparently who heard us speaking and recognized us as American.

From the back of the elevator car, we heard this very British voice say, "How COULD you elect that man?"

My husband, generally reserved, quipped back, "Don't blame me lady- I didn't vote for him!"

Even then, his popularity poll in europe was zero. Eight years of his leadership has dramatically altered the way we Americans are perceived around the world.

Nice thread, Sue! Thanks for starting it!

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly that the Asia Forum has some very nice people, but what impresses me the most about the people on this forum is the way they all pitch in for Ponheary Ly in Cambodia and help with her schools. Now that's inspirational! :)
