Were you quoted?: Just Out Fodor's Shanghai and Tokyo

Hello Asia forum!

Tokyo, 2nd edition and Shanghai, 1st edition went on sale today. Each of our guides include quotes from posters on the Forums in our Word of Mouth feature. We've listed all those quoted here:

Happy (almost) Friday!

Do those quoted get a free guidebook of their choice?

Katie_H May 3rd, 2007 01:29 PM

Good question--we're still working out how else we can thank those posters included. For now, it seemed that we should at the very least be thanking them on the site.

Other suggestions are welcome here or can be emailed to [email protected].

mrwunrfl May 3rd, 2007 03:29 PM

Wonderful info, thanks for letting us know.

Shanghainese May 3rd, 2007 03:46 PM

Katie: Great idea for including quotes from posters, I feel honored.

I'd appreciate receiving a free copy of the guidebook I was featured in, that's a great suggestion, EK.

mrwunrfl May 3rd, 2007 05:16 PM

You're welcome, fodors. Thanks for the forum.

I'd just like to know which of my many pearls of wisdom were worthy.

emd May 3rd, 2007 05:30 PM

mrwunrfl let me know about this post. I see lcuy and mara and KMloke got quoted too. Cool. So what did I ever say about Tokyo that is quotable, now I gotta go see. I hope it was accurate, whatever it is...

Mara May 3rd, 2007 08:11 PM

Cool! So I have to buy the book to find out what I said.....I don't even post that much....Maybe I can sort of read it in the bookstore ;-)

lcuy May 3rd, 2007 09:12 PM

Thanks Katie for the lists. Nice idea!

Now I gotta go buy one, so I can see what I said!

Katie_H May 4th, 2007 06:30 AM

Well, I can't tell if you'd like stay in suspense. I think it's so cool that here you all are checking into this thread--glad your around. Here are your quotes below. Happy Friday!

mrwunrfl and emd: You both were quoted at the start of the "Where to Eat" Chapter.

mrwunrfl: "If you see a small place with a bunch of young guys chowing down, go there."

emd: "There was a vendor at the base of Tokyo Tower who had baked sweet potatoes in a wood-fried oven in his little roasting cart. Seeing this cart and little old man and fire embers late at night was magical."

lcuy: Your quote is at the start of the "Side Trips from Tokyo" chapter.
"I prefer Kamakura over Nikko. It's easier to get from Tokyo, and I like its small feel."

Mara: Your quote is at the start of the "Nightlife & the Arts" chapter:
"If you are a museum person, look into the Grutt Pass---it will save you a lot of you go to a number of museums."

Shanghainese your quote is at the start of the "Where to Stay" chapter in the Shanghai guide:
"If you don't want to spend too much time in taxis....book a hotel in the central area even if it costs a bit more."

Hi Katie_H

Are other guide books coming out soon that may feature quotes from the Fodors board?

Katie_H May 4th, 2007 07:12 AM

Our Gold guides (look for the orange bind!) all feature WOM at this time. The guides coming out next month are:
China, Japan, and National Parks of the West.

Mara May 4th, 2007 07:58 AM

Thanks, Katie H! Yeah, that GRUTT pass was great for me, Ms. Budget Traveler ;-)

JamesA May 4th, 2007 08:48 AM

mrwunrfl May 4th, 2007 11:44 AM

lol!
Thanks Katie

KMLoke May 4th, 2007 04:14 PM

Wow! :D

emd May 4th, 2007 06:06 PM

mrwunrfl, I am ROFL laughing- that quote is so "you" and your fodors personality...

I do remember that little old man who had sweet potatoes roasting in the cart at the base of Tokyo Tower, and it WAS magical- being with my teen son after all that work to get to Tokyo and all that work finding Tokyo Tower (not as it easy as it sounds- and ALL those stairs in that subway station) and then seeing that little man and his cart...we thought we were getting corn on the cob and when we opened the foil, of all thing it was a sweet potatoe. Big surprise. One of those moments.

I like my quote, I am glad they picked that one. And Mara's is perfect for her too, she is a great budget traveler!

kuranosuke May 6th, 2007 04:45 PM

congrats to all of you. now i can tell my frieds i know a few writers that were published.

now, though, i don't know how we are going to deal with lucy. lol

Katie_H May 7th, 2007 07:23 AM

Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

Sadly, I'll have to take back my Vietnam announcement. The book won't be in stores in August; I'll double-check for an updated pub date.

Thanks!
