well located cheap rooms tokyo?

anyone recommend a safe, well located cheap place for my husband and I to stay on our first trip to tokyo?

I don't know if you're looking for japanese or western style rooms, but the Ryokan Shigetsu in Asakusa offers both. We stayed there last year based on recommendations from this board and were extremely pleased! The Ryokan is literally 2 minutes from the Sensoji Temple and 5 minutes to the Asakusa subway stop. Excellent location. Very clean rooms and tiny bathrooms--but there's a japanese bath on the top floor. Highly recommended. I'm sure others would agree.

Clarion in Ikebukuro usually has pretty good rates--bookable online. Very convenient location, decent rooms, free DSL in room.

addwag-

There are many dining options near the Shigetsu. Across the street is a very popular restaurant that serves some kind of dish that resembles a crepe/omelet which you make on grills at your table. A bit difficult to describe but fun and good. There are also several good sushi bars around. We were out a lot and often ate in other areas of Tokyo. But there were MANY restaurants nearby. The hotel staff can also make good recommendations.

We loved Tokyo! Have a great time!

For food, check out www.bento.com. Definitely get "Tokyo City Atlas" which is a map book of Tokyo. With it, you can get any address and find it. Otherwise, you'll be lost.
