Weekend trip from hong kong
 

I am traveling with my husband for work in January. We have a weekend free. Any ideas on where to go? I'm partial to cities esp since I'll be traveling w my kids later that month to the carribean.

Bangkok would be my first suggestion. Fabulous food, great shopping. Reasonably priced hotels.

Is Bangkok up and running post flooding? I was thinking of that but wasn't sure

If a "weekend" is just two days it's difficult to go to another country. Even for nearby countries by the time you add in transportation, airport formalities etc. it's at least 6 hours door to door. You might think about taking the train to Guangzhou or ferry to Macau.

If you have 3 or 4 days, I'd suggest Saigon / Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi. Also Shanghai.

Be aware of the dates of Lunar New Year. Not a good time to travel. Also, check visa requirements.

Yes, central Bangkok is dry. There are outlying areas that still have flooding, but the areas you would go - the central shopping area and the area around the river are fine.
