Wedding in August in Koh Tao, Koh Chang or Koh Samui

Please help.

We are going to Thailand to get married... just the two of us. It was hoped to be romantic and special and less stressful than planning a big wedding. We are having trouble finding a pretty location/ hotel that will do our small wedding for a reasonable price. If anyone has any advice, it will be much welcomed.

Also we are flexible on where to get married... koh tao, koh chang or koh samui. I've heard Koh Samui can be more of a party place and we want a romantic spot to relax, but also get to see some things and enjoy the culture. People have said Koh Tao is beautiful... perhaps that's why it's hard to find a hotel to do an inexpensive wedding. We've also heard Koh Chang is lovely, but are wondering about the weather there at that time.

Many thanks in advance for any and all advice.

H

We got married in Ko Samui on a private beach at a lovely boutique resort called Rocky Resort. There is a little beach bar there but it is well away from the nightclubs etc found in Chaweng and Lamai. It was fantastic - couldn't recommend it more highly. The wedding was inexpensive compared to home (London) but not sure what price you are looking to pay.

Ko Tao has become quite the party spot also. Not sure if there are places doing weddings there as accommodation is much more low key. Mainly a divers island.

There is a beach on Ko Pha Ngan called Thong Nai Pan Noi and on that beach there are two resorts up on the cliffs at either end - the Panviman and the Santhiya. They may be doing weddings. Also the Sanctuary resort on Had Tien does unusual weddings also.

I know that Big John Resort on the west coast (quiet coast) of Samui does inexpensive weddings too.

Hope this helps,
BB

We are going to vote for bobs idea and koh chang. We had our honeymoon there and it was awesome! Many times we were the only people on the beach, as far as we could see in either direction! They had a wedding one night down the beach and it was beautiful! I think we still have some pics of it if you are interested. If you want quiet and romantic, then KC is a good choice! Are you going to bring any family or friends with you? What month are you thinking of?

I too agree with rhkkmk's suggestion. The Amari emerald cove in Koh Chang is very nice. We stayed there 2/3 years back and had a great time, nice restaurants, spacious rooms and great gardens leading down to a quiet beach with the most amazing sunsets. I have lots of photo but havent't got site online yet so can't share them.

Depending upon when you are getting married, Evason Hotels have announced that they are to open a hotel on koh kiri, just offshore from KC. this will doubtless be a very special hotel and you may get a good deal on opening. A link http://www.sixsenses.com/soneva-kiri/index.php .

August weatherwise Koh Tamui/Tao would be best choice, is 'is' a Peak Season in August on Samui, are you thinking 'this year or next' ?
Koh Tao is of couse small and a totoaly different sort of place to Samui.

Thank you for all the advice.

We are planning for August of this year. It will just be the two of us, so some places have said they only do a minimum of 20.

Jeffrey - where in Koh Chang did you stay? Was the wedding you saw on the beach held on your hotel's property or was it another hotels's?

Does anyone have any additional ideas on hotels? Or advice on the best way to get to these islands? We were probably going to book flights to Koh Chang/ Samui, and ferry to Tao from Samui.

Thanks again!
Holly

flying is best in each case....to chang, it is both a flight and then a car ride, ferry ride and then another car ride...easy to do...

We stayed at at he Barali and it was awesome! We had a beach front bungalow for about $100 US a night! The beach wedding was actually next door. Bob will remember what the name of the place is, he is much better at that stuff than me. The wedding was in the evening right at sunset. I didnt get any pics of the actual wedding, but I did get some of the set up. They had these torches lit up like an aisle that went all the way into the water. We flew from BKK to trat then took a van to the ferry then the same van to the bungalow. When we finally got there, it REALLY felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. With all the travel my wife and I have done, Koh Chang is still both of our favorite places in the world! Sent me an email if you want and I can get you some pics of our place and some of the wedding set up if I can find them. [email protected]

as an aside to Bob because I know you will read this; April and I worked a murder trial this week, until some of the jury went to a bar for lunch, came back drunk, and the judge declared a mistrial! I know you are always interested in our weird jobs!

we also stayed at the barali....we liked it quite a bit but i would not consider it a good place for the wedding really....

i think that the amari would be a perfect place....its much nicer and has a bigger lawn area under palm trees and by the ocean front....away from other guests...

i think the place next door to barali is tropacana resort.....their food is very good...

Koh Chang is very rainy in August, with a variety of sources ranging rainfall from 700 - 1000+mm...that's a lot of rain. That'd more than double the rain than Phuket gets that time of year, which it seems like you are intentionally avoiding. I'd forgot Koh Chang, too.
