Weather China November
 

Hi there
We are looking to travel to Hong Kong and Beijing in mid November this year. We are a little concerned at how cold it is going to be in Beijing? I have looked up some numbers that advise it to be between 0-12 degrees (celcius)

Is this true? What kind of cold is it - sorry that might sound like a stupid question - but I've been in Paris in 2 degrees that wasn't too bad, but had 8 degrees in London that was just bitter with the wind chill thrown in.

Would you recommend waiting to travel or do you think it will be okay - I'm hoping there might be a few less tourists? But I'm also conscious that to spend a day hiking on the Wall at 5 degrees may not be so great...

Beijing will be cold and can get really biting wind. I guess it depends on what you consider too cold. Check www.weatherbase.com for average temperatures. Really, only you can say whether you'd enjoy traveling there in those temperatures.

Hong Kong is rather pleasant IMO at that time of the year.

At best winds will clear the sky and you'll actually see it to be blue. However the air is very dry indeed, and there's constant build-up of static. HIgher ground to the north (where the Great Wall is found) is considerably cooler than central Beijing, although some of the sites are in sheltered valleys out of the wind. The lower temperatures are compensated for by the remains of autumn colours, generally clearer vision, and the warm, yellow, near-horizontal light that's present for much of day (when high-level winds are doing their job) making photography far more viable than it is during the muggy, heavily-polluted summers with their flat skies. October would be a better choice for overall comfort, but as long as you are prepared to wrap up warmly, November will do. There are certainly fewer visitors at that time.

I was in Beijing the first week of Nov. last year. We prepared for it to be cold and windy on the Great Wall. Instead it was 65 degrees and sunny with no wind. So who can predict with certainty what the weather will be? Just be prepared for anything from 32 degrees to 75 degrees and you will be fine. lol Have a nice trip. China was really interesting.

I was in Beijing last november also, while I was there it was cold early moring and warmed up in the afternoon. we did have a few colder days though, I would suggest bringing (or just buying) a pair of thin gloves and a warm fall coat. I found October and November to be a great time to travel in China. Enjoy your trip!
