We leave for Myanmar tomorrow
What a coincidence. Today the US announced it is resuming diplomatic relations with Myanmar. Tomorrow we leave for our 3 week trip to Myanmar.
For all you future travellers to Myanmar, I hope this means you will be able to use credit cards rather than having to accumulate pristine $100 bills to exchange into kyat and pay your travel agency, as we have had to do. And I hope that the restorations of relations with Burma leads to a more promising future for the citizens of Myanmar. Many thanks to all you past travellers to Burma who have posted TRs and answered questions concerning Burma. It has made planning my trip easier than it would have been otherwise. |
Shelly, have a wonderful time! I am eager to hear all about your trip.
I got up this morning to the news that many important political prisioners have been released. This will be an exciting time to visit Burma. |

Hope you are able to post as you go. We will be following you in 10 days, so any sage advice would be valuable. Went to the bank yesterday and have lots of crispy new bills for our trip. Ditto on the thanks to all those TR writers...it sure helped put together a last minute trip. Have a great time on yours shelleyk.

Looks like many Fodorites are off to Burma! We leave in 2 weeks and like susncrg just got our new bills yesterday (we live near Chinatown in NYC, where new bills are in high demand for the New Year).
Enjoy your trip! Should be a wonderful time to visit given all of the positive news coming out of the country. |
have a fab time in Myanmar, I went for a paltry 7 days and LOVED it.

Thank you. I'm so looking forward to this trip, though not to the 26 hour plane journey there (and even longer coming home)
