The Mattupetty Lake, Kundala Lake, Pothamedu (ideal for trekking and long mountain walks), Devikulam, Attukal and Nyayamakad waterfalls, Rajamala wild life, Eravikulam National Park, Marayoor Forest (Sandal Woods), Muniyaras (Caves)erala that has a natural growth of sandalwood trees. The sandalwood factory of the forest department, the caves (muniyaras), Top Station (a viewing point)etc. At least it takes 3 - 4 days in Munnar to see the places at leisure. Generally, people who go to Munnar, also spend a night in Houseboats in the backwaters of Kumarakom/Alapuzha.

Sometimes, Sam, we foreigners find our India experiences in all the wrong places. Fifteen minutes at a roadside chai stall can be just as thrilling as a view of the Mattupetty Dam. The things you take for granted are sometimes the very things we find fascinating - the things you find really interesting are sometimes kinda dull for us.

I don't think anyone goes to Munnar for wild excitement. If Alan chose not to pump up the adrenalin with an excursion to see the sandalwood trees of Muniyaras, well, that's O.K.

I'm more interested in the 'no-batchelors' rule at your homestay. Care to expand on their rationale for that, Alan?

Sam, we each have our own interests when we travel. I saw lots of lakes and several dams; I don't know all their names and I must admit to me they weren't as interesting as the subjects I included. I'm a 64yo wanderer, not a hiker or trekker. And I wasn't there for 3 or 4 days.

But I'm sure your comments will help someone else with different interests, so thank you making it.

Munnar is on the radar for my next trip to Kerala--time did not allow for it first time 'round.

If you'd like to see the area in a film, get "Before the Rains" Although in the storyt he locale is different, it was filmed in and around Munnar.
