Visas

We are applying for visas for Myanmar and will
be independent travelers. The visas require evidence of travel..we don't have airline tickets yet. Do you have to have a ticket to get the visa or is there another way this is done.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

I don't think you need the evidence to apply for the visa, but you will probably need to show proof of onward travel when entering Myanmar.

Given the domain name of your e-mail provider I will assume you have a U.S.A. passport.

The US govt calls the country Burma. Here is the CIS:
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_p.../cis_1077.html

Of significant interest to the OP is the following paragraph:

ENTRY AND EXIT REQUIREMENTS: The government of Burma strictly controls travel to, from, and within Burma. Since October 1, 2006, the Burmese government has often prohibited entry or exit at most land border crossings, unless the traveler is part of a package tour group that has received prior permission from the Burmese authorities. A passport and visa are required for entry into Burma. Travelers are required to show their passports with a valid visa at all airports, train stations, and hotels. Security checkpoints are common outside of tourist areas.

A key term in that text is: land border crossings.

For visas to other countries I've purchased the airline ticket and used the itinerary with the application, just like the instructions call for.

But, to answer your question, for Burma, I must say that I don't know either.

With the instructions for the visa application, it states that you must submit a copy of a ticket or an itinerary. I just
wondered if there was any way around this as I'm still working on the tickets and wanted to go ahead and apply for the visa, so that I have it in hand.

Thanks, Helen

"wanted to go ahead and apply for the visa,"

When are you travelling? Burmese visas are good for three months from the date of issue -- I interpret that to mean that you must leave within that period.
