As a holder of a U.K. passport, is it possible to obtain a visa on arrival at Colombo airport?

Not to my knowledge. According to the UK government website, you need to apply online for an Electronic Travel Authorization a few days before departure. You should receive it within 24 hours. Here are the full requirements: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-ad...y-requirements
