Visa on arrival
Can anyone tell me how the visa on arrival for Myanmar works we plan to apply for it through an online VOA website (recommendations would be appreciated) what exactly is the process? do we fill in the form and receive an e-mail letter on arrival like in Vietnam which you have to show at check in at the airport or how does it work and how long does it take.
Sorry if this question has come up often but I'm at the beginning of my research to plan the trip. Thanks |
There is no visa on arrival for Burma for tourists. (This is the same situation as VN, they call it VOA, but it is not.)
You can get a pre-arranged visa through a travel agent. They often refer to it as a visa on arrival, which it obviously is not. The cost is 3x-4x the cost of getting a visa in your own country or in Bangkok. You fill out form, pay the travel agent, and they will send you an email confirmation when it is approved. The agent will meet you at the airport and escort you through the visa process. Often, the agent will require to to buy some services from them, which isn't a bad idea, as you will need an agent to buy flights. If you are traveling during high season, you will want accommodations reserved in advance as there is a shortage. |
We are planning on going next February so still have a few months, we will be stopping off in Bangkok for 3 days before our flight to Yangon would it be better to get our Visa from there as I don't relaly like the idea of sending our passports to the embassy.

You can get it in Bangkok. I really recommend that you get it at home - easy and quick and cheap - but I understand people are nervous about sending off their passports. I've gotten many visas by mail, always use priority mail or UPS or Fed Ex. Getting it in Bangkok means taking up some of your vacation time standing in line.

Thanks Kathie, will follow your advice and get it before we leave.

I believe the fee is $20 and the visa will be valid for 3 months from date of issue.
If you use Fed Ex both ways it should take about 2 weeks. |
