Narita Japan--airport for the day
We have 8 hours at Narita on the way home to Canada. I was wondering if we should attempt to leave the airport to see anything. Other option is to go to a hotel for the day and use the pool and room for a few hours. Any suggestions.

The airport provides guided tours to different places.
I am pretty sure that each day features a different tour.
We took a tour to a replica 16th century village.
I would recommend taking one of the tours.
We missed the saki tour by one day!!

if you go to the customer service booth in the lobby they will offer you the tours...or i think it is on line if you google narita airport...
we twice left the airport...one we took a hotel bus to the hotel and had a delicious lunch....did not need any money as we used credit cards...
another time we took the train into narita town...it is quite lovely...lots of shopping and restaurants and a very nice temple to visit with huge grounds....
both are worthwhile...i think we had a 7 hour lay-over.....

I always stay in the town of Narita to rest up from the trans-Pacific flight for a night or two when I am flying to Asian points via Tokyo. Then I also stay here for a night before flying back to the States. It is a very short train ride from the airport.
Narita is quite nice and has a very nice, large temple complex within a short walk of the train station. It is well worth visiting. You can do that on your own without a tour.

Including the time to clear the customs and the time to go back through security/immigration on the way back, you'll have probably about 5hrs in "landside" (assuming your flight arrives on time).
I haven't tried the organised tour from the airport, but that sounds one good option. As others mentioned, you can try Narita City on your own (temple as the main attraction).
Swimming pool--I know Radisson and Hilton both have indoor pools, but you'll need to check if you can use them as a visitor. Most other hotels only have outdoor pools open during summer months.
Failing that, Narita has enough facilities (like Terminal 1 better than Terminal 2), including quite decent sushi restaurants.
