Visa-free transit through Chengdu Tianfu airport in 2023??
Has anyone successfully flown through Chengdu's new Tianfu airport in 2023 without a visa? (There's something called the 144-hour visa-free transit policy)
I'm planning a trip with a 50-hour layover in Chengdu. After extensive online research, there is contradictory information and no recent information from official government sources. It seems that the 144-hour visa free transit policy does apply to TFU as of March '23, but I want to make sure. If anyone has done this in 2023 please let me know!
Also, my itinerary is Vancouver YVR – Hong Kong HKG – Chengdu TFU and then departure Chengdu TFU – Istanbul IST 50 hours later. Arriving from Hong Kong is ok, right? I'm asking because the requirements for this visa free transit include entering and exiting China via the same airport and with no connecting flights within China. So for example Tokyo – Chengdu – Shanghai – LAX doesn't work because of the connection in Shanghai. But I've read that departing to, or arriving from Hong Kong is ok. please confirm.
(I'm also aware that you have to be a citizen of one of the 53 countries eligible for this policy and you can't depart to the same place from which you arrived, so Tokyo – Chengdu – Tokyo doesn't work. You have to depart towards a "third country")
