Vietnam Weather in Late August or Early September?
Hi, all--
My husband and I are contemplating a trip to Vietnam at the end of the August (10-13 days) or in early September. We are in our mid 30's and love active adventures. We'd love to see as much as the country as possible (hike, kayak, see cities, explore, go to the beach). But we are a bit concerned about the weather. Is this rainy season? Will we have to avoid any major areas?

VN is a long, thin country so different part of the country get impacted by different weather systems. Here is the website I use for weather: take a look at each place you would like to visit. BTW, 10-13 days is not enough to see the whole country, even just the main cities, so choose the places that interest you most rather than trying to do it all.

I can't speak for the North, but in the south it is definitely rainy season. The rain itself isn't so bad, as it usually comes in the afternoon. The problem is that you'll be there at the back end of the monsoons, so roads may already be in poor condition (or flooded out) and rivers and trails may be unsafe due to high water levels.
I have been going to Camabodia in Sept/Oct for several years. I love the coolness and the lush greenery at that time of the year, but any plans for travel into the countryside are usually hampered by flooding on the secondary roads.

Thanks for the feedback, Kathie and lcuy. Since we don't have a ton of time, we were contemplating going to Hanoi, Halong Bay, and Hoi An. We would be leaving August 23. Do you think rain is too risky during this time?
