Vietnam visa

I am looking for a little up to date Vietnam visa help. I made a minor error in my approved visa and need an extension.
can anyone tell me the best way to go about this. I will be arriving in ho chi Minh via airport. I would prefer to not leave the country and just extend from within. There are alot of mixed messages on line.
Thanks
Heather

I agree that there are a lot of mixed messages online, not least because the Vietnamese immigration authorities keep moving the goalposts as far as visas are concerned. Over the years I have entered vietnam but many different points and using just about every variation of visa application but have never had cause to renew or extend a visa (apparently there is a difference between renewing and extending!). On one of our recent trips, we met some friends who did need to renew and they found it difficult and time consuming and need counter signature by tour companies, hotels and a lot of waiting around for processing.

Whilst it used to be possible to extend for many countries and types of visa, it does seem that it may no longer be possible. If it is it will depend upon which country’s passport you are travelling. Any info you see online may not be current, a lot can depend on your or apply to you.

If it were me and I was visiting for less than three months, I think I would probably just obtain a three month visa on arrival approval letter (VOA) through one of the many agencies out there and use that instead of whatever visa you have at the moment. If you applied for a visa through such an agency already, I would ask them, as they are likely to be a lot more responsive than the official immigration service who will most likely just tell you to to apply for a normal visa via the embassy in your home country.

Good luck and please come back with some firsthand info which may help others.
