i have had very good luck with finn air and korean air from jfk.. i get to jfk on my own from boston as 8i find it makes a huge difference in the cost to fly from boston using many carriers..
where on the east coast??
ANA, british air, luftansa, singapore, delta, united, air canada, japan, cathy pacific, china air, china eastern and many others offer east coast service (china and CEA are least preferable and probably cheapest).

Bob - yes, she asked for east coast but VIRGINIA implies DC, not NYC so I used that info to make a recommendation that might be more meaningful to her. BTW, have you used kayak? I find it is a very efficient way to find flights (although not to purchase them)...

Virginia is not my name although the assumption about Dulles was correct. I was hopping that there was some incredible price out of JFK but it does not appear to have any advantage. As always, all of the responses, including the side comments, were greatly appreciated (and fun). Fish is an alias for my last name...
