Vietnam/Cambodia - Travel Insurance?
My husband and I are going to Vietnam for three weeks, with a three-day stop in Cambodia. Our travel health specialist suggested we get travelers insurance for things such as being evacuated from the country should one of us get seriously injured. Can someone please explain the different types of travel insurance, and provide a recommendation as to what kind we should get? Also, how do we go about getting it?
Thanks! |
Here's my thread from last year - we ended up buying MedJet's annual policy for $335.

You do not necessarily need comprehensive insurance.
You do need medical coverage and medical evacuation coverage. My medical insurance covers me abroad, in the past I have bought evacuation coverage from tenweb.com and Traveler's Liaison. You might need trip interruption and cancellation insurance if you are taking a cruise or tour that would cost you a lot if cancelled. Your homeowners/renters insurance should cover you for theft. |
I'm not sure if I mentioned on the other thread (the one to which I linked) that my BIL and SIL had Travelguard medevac insurance a few years ago, and had to use it. My BIL had to be helicoptered off their boat to some small town, ultimately they had to fly home first class (he had to be lying down) to LA -- TravelGuard paid the whole thing.

I've had very good luck with Travelguard/Chartis. We got a simple (and fast) settlement for a cancelled flight/extra hotel charge in Peru for us, and a medical reimbursement for an emergency doctor vist in England for our daughter.

Thanks for all the great tips! We ended up going with travel guard.
